If I Had My Way, I Would Tear This Whole Building Down

This old house has been sitting back in the overgrown brush at 57th and Jackson in Myrtle Grove for so many years. I don’t know when the last time was that someone lived in it. It was built in 1906. I always wanted to go in and have a look, but never pursued the opportunity. It had a haunted look to it.

I happened to be driving by today and saw it being torn down. It seemed to be a very interesting old house. I wonder about the history of it and the lives of the people who lived there.

Forgive my nostalgia, but I like to imagine what it was like here in Pensacola in the early 1900s. It was still such a small community when I grew up in the early 70’s. In high school I did yard work for a man who delivered mail in downtown Pensacola in a horse-drawn carriage in 1915. How can we ever imagine what it must have been like back then.

I wonder if this old house being torn down brought out this much feeling and emotion in anyone else. Either way, it was pretty ugly, but fascinating nonetheless. I can only imagine.
