• In 2011, she revealed that she followed a strict diet and exercise regimen before the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which included drinking only protein shakes and water and abstaining from solid food for nine days. She also said she worked out twice daily for three weeks before the show. Many people criticized her for promoting an unhealthy and unrealistic body image and lifestyle and for setting a bad example for young girls and women.
• Lima later clarified that she did not follow this routine all year round and that it was only for a specific event. She also said that she did not encourage anyone to follow her example, and that she consulted with nutritionists and doctors before doing so.
• In 2012, she appeared in a controversial commercial for Kia Motors, which aired during the Super Bowl. The ad featured Lima in a bikini, waving a checkered flag, while a voice-over said, “The perfect man is gentle, he is funny, he is smart, he is generous, and he drives a Kia Optima.” Many people accused the ad of being sexist, stereotypical, and objectifying women. Lima defended the ad, saying that it was meant to be humorous and playful and that she was proud of being part of it.
• In 2017, she posted a message on Instagram, saying that she was tired of the superficial values of the fashion industry and that she would no longer take off her clothes for an empty cause. She also said that she wanted to support women’s empowerment and self-esteem and would only work with brands aligning with her values.

Many people praised her for her stance, while others questioned her sincerity and consistency, given her previous work and contracts.

Lima explained that she changed her perspective after meeting a friend who was unhappy with her appearance and wanted to make a positive impact with her platform.
