In May 2012, Manchester City immortalized themselves in football history with the unforgettable “Agueroooooo!” goal, marking their first Premier League triumph in 44 years. TheCityCeleb takes a nostalgic journey, commemorating 30 years of the Premier League, to relive the iconic moment that transcended the sport’s boundaries.

Facing Queens Park Rangers (QPR) on the final day of the 2011/12 season, City needed only to match Manchester United’s result to secure the coveted title. The atmosphere at the Etihad Stadium was nothing short of a carnival as the sun bathed the field in warm light.

Despite the script favoring a routine City victory against QPR, football had different plans. Underdogs battling relegation, QPR had their own narrative to unfold. The emotional rollercoaster leading up to the match was captured by Pablo Zabaleta, who recalled lying in bed, contemplating the chance to win the Premier League.

In a Shakespearean turn of events, the match unfolded with unexpected twists. City was trailing, and as Manchester United secured victory, the dream of a title seemed to slip away. However, destiny had other plans. In the 92nd minute, Sergio Agüero‘s unforgettable goal secured a comeback win, etching Manchester City’s name in history.

The “Agueroooooo!” moment shattered Sir Alex Ferguson‘s prophecy, announcing City as a force to be reckoned with. As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Premier League, TheCityCeleb pays homage to that May day in 2012, when a single goal resonated across the footballing world, capturing the unpredictable beauty and sheer drama that football brings to the lives of millions.
