In a midweek Bundesliga clash, Bayer Leverkusen showcased their dominance with a resounding 4-0 victory over Bochum, maintaining their four-point lead over Bayern Munich. Striker Victor Boniface contributed to the win with a goal following Patrik Schick‘s first-half hat-trick.

Leverkusen’s manager, Xabi Alonso, strategically rested key players, including Boniface, ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in January. However, the decision proved effective as Schick, making his first league start in 14 months, secured a penalty and netted two more goals before halftime.

Despite Bayern Munich’s 2-1 win against Wolfsburg, with Harry Kane scoring his 21st league goal, Leverkusen’s stellar performance has kept the German champions at a distance. The title race is evolving into a true two-horse competition between Leverkusen and Bayern.

Leverkusen’s sporting director, Simon Rolfes, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance: “We’re happy about that, but it’s even more important that we keep doing it into the new year.”

In another Bundesliga encounter, Stuttgart bounced back from their 3-0 loss to Bayern, defeating Augsburg 3-0 and surpassing RB Leipzig to claim the third spot. Star striker Serhou Guirassy scored his 17th goal of the campaign.

In their debut Bundesliga season, Heidenheim continued to impress by coming from behind twice to secure a 3-2 home win against Freiburg.

Eintracht Frankfurt staged a remarkable comeback with two injury-time goals to beat Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1. Maximilian Wöber had given Gladbach the lead in the first half, but the late goals from Aurélio Buta and Robin Koch turned the game in Frankfurt’s favor.

Union Berlin climbed out of the Bundesliga relegation zone with a 2-0 victory at home against Cologne. Second-half goals from Benedict Hollerbach and David Datro Fofana secured Union’s fourth win.

The defeat leaves Cologne in second-last place on the table, prompting concerns about the team’s performance. Cologne manager Steffen Baumgart acknowledged the challenging situation, stating, “It doesn’t look good for us.”

As the Bundesliga heads into a brief winter break, the performances of Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, and the emerging competition for the title will undoubtedly keep football enthusiasts eagerly anticipating the second half of the season.
