In a groundbreaking moment for Nigerian music, Burna Boy, Olamide, and Ayra Starr have set new records following announcing nominees for the 66th edition of the Grammy Awards.

Burna Boy, securing four nominations, has officially become the Nigerian artist with the most Grammy nominations in the awards, amassing 10 nominations. Notably, he is also the first Nigerian artist to achieve a Grammy nomination in five consecutive years (2019-2023).

Additionally, Burna Boy‘s track Sittin’ On Top of The World has etched its name in history as the first African song to earn a Grammy nomination in the Rap category. This remarkable achievement positions the song in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category, competing with tracks such as Doja Cat’s Attention, Drake & 21 Savage’s Spin Bout U, SZA’s Low, and Lil Durk and J. Cole’s ‘All My Life.

Olamide has also made history by becoming the first Nigerian rapper to secure a Grammy nomination. His collaborative effort with Asake, titled Amapiano, earned a nomination in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys. Amapiano will vie for the award against other notable tracks such as Davido’s Unavailable, Ayra Starr’s Rush, Burna Boy’s City Boys, and Tyla’s Water.

In a remarkable achievement, Ayra Starr, at just 21 years old, has become the youngest Nigerian to secure a Grammy nomination. Her hit song Rush was nominated in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys, marking a significant milestone in her career.
