Nigerian celebrities and devoted fans celebrated what would have been the 28th birthday of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. The artist, a former signee of Marlian Records, passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023, leaving a lasting impact on the music industry.

Mohbad had left Marlian Records to establish his label, ‘Imolenization,’ a move that signalled his desire for creative autonomy. However, his untimely death stirred controversy, leading the Lagos State Police Command to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his passing. The investigation included the exhumation of Mohbad‘s body for autopsy, with speculations and debates surrounding the tragic event.

Despite the ongoing discussions about his demise, celebrities and fans took to social media on Mohbad‘s posthumous birthday to celebrate his life and his indelible mark on the music scene.

Big Brother Naija’s former housemate, Tacha Akide, posted a poignant picture of Mohbad on her X handle with the caption, “Happy Birthday Mohbad,” paying homage to the late artist.

Bella Shmurda, a friend of Mohbad and a fellow musician, shared a heartfelt message on his Instagram handle (@Bella_Shmurda): “Happy posthumous birthday, my brother, my friend Oba Imole. Rest in power. Love u forever, and I miss u.”

The music community united in expressing their love and admiration for Mohbad. Bad Boy Timz posted a touching video with the caption, “Happy Posthumous Birthday, my Friend Mohbad Oba Imole! If I knew this was the last time I’d see you, I would’ve stayed a little longer! I’ll love & celebrate you forever, my soldier.”

Social media platforms buzzed with messages from various personalities, including Seyi Vibez, Dami Adenuga, and others, who shared fond memories of the late artist. Their posts reflected a mix of grief, love, and admiration for Mohbad‘s contribution to the music industry.

Despite the controversies surrounding Mohbad‘s death, fans on Twitter expressed their love and continued support with messages like, “Happy birthday, Mohbad, your light will continue to shine forever. You will forever be a light and a superstar.” (@TheAjibolaGrey).

However, the lingering questions about Mohbad‘s demise and the delay in the release of the autopsy report cast a shadow over the celebrations. The Lagos State Police Command, when questioned about the report, stated, “The autopsy report has not been given to us. Some people have been carrying rumours that it’s ready. It’s one thing to be ready; it’s another thing to be given to us officially – that we would receive and sign a copy that we have received it.”

The prolonged delay has prompted Bella Shmurda to appeal to the police for the release of Mohbad‘s remains, urging a dignified funeral arrangement and the prompt disclosure of autopsy results.

As the music community commemorates Mohbad‘s posthumous birthday, the quest for justice and clarity surrounding his passing remains an ongoing narrative, underscoring the complexities and challenges artists face even after their untimely departure.
