He was brought up by his parents, Sobhraj Hatchard Bavani and Tran Loang Phun, alongside one sibling named André Darreau. Despite his notorious reputation, little information is available about his educational background.

Career

Sobhraj continued scamming and committing crimes, and Leclerc remained by his side, often acting as his accomplice and even participating in some of his schemes.

Despite knowing about his fraudulent activities and infidelity, she remained loyal to him and helped him evade capture for years. This ultimately led to her downfall, as she was arrested with Sobhraj in 1976 and sentenced to 20 years in prison for her involvement in his crimes.

Sobhraj used manipulation and deceit to gain followers and build his criminal empire. He would often pose as a helpful and trustworthy individual, using his charm and cunning to trick people into believing he was on their side.

However, his true intentions were always self-serving, as seen in his schemes to help his targets out of difficult situations to gain their trust and loyalty. Sobhraj’s ability to manipulate and deceive others was a critical factor in his success as a criminal, allowing him to build a network of followers willing to do his bidding.

However, Sobhraj’s comfortable prison life was short-lived as he was accused and convicted of the murder of an American tourist in 1975. Due to his previous escape attempts and manipulative behaviour, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in Nepal.

Despite this, Sobhraj continued to make headlines with his numerous escape attempts and manipulation of the legal system. His time in prison was filled with drama, including a failed escape attempt where he dressed up as a woman. Eventually, he was extradited to India, where he was also convicted of multiple murders and sentenced to life imprisonment.

However, Sobhraj’s comfortable life in Paris was short-lived, as he was eventually arrested and charged for a string of murders he committed in the 1970s. Despite charging large sums of money for interviews and photographs, his reputation as a notorious serial killer followed him wherever he went.

In 2003, Sobhraj returned to Nepal, one of the few countries where he could still be arrested and where he was still eagerly sought by authorities. His return, believed to be to set up a mineral water business, was ultimately his downfall as he was finally arrested and sentenced to life in prison.

This serves as a reminder that no matter how successful and wealthy someone may become, their past actions and crimes can still catch up to them.
