She was outgoing and unusual and desired to do something truly interesting, which prompted her to pursue an acting career.

She eventually moved to YouTube, where she would achieve incredible popularity as a comedian. Colleen’s character, Miranda Sings, has propelled her to the level of YouTube superstar, with millions of views to boot. Her internet stardom has also led to a lucrative career as a live comedy performer.

Early Life

Colleen Ballinger was born in Santa Barbara, California, to sales manager Tim Ballinger and housewife Gwen Ballinger on November 21, 1986.

She has three siblings: Christopher Ballinger, Rachel Ballinger and Trent Ballinger. She attended Azusa Pacific University after graduating from San Marcos High School in 2008.

Career

Following a stint at Disney in California, she starred in the smash blockbuster ‘High School Musical,’ launching her career.

Because she was always interested in comedy, she invented the character of Miranda Sings, an egocentric lady who is arrogant and rude despite her obvious lack of talent.

Inspired in part by young women she knew in college, the character was originally intended to be an inside joke among her friends. Colleen began making Miranda-themed videos for fun and uploading them on YouTube in 2008.

Her channel was shockingly successful, especially after a ‘Free Voice Lesson’ video went viral in 2009. The film, intended as a spoof of mediocre performers giving unwanted advice to others, garnered harsh criticism from people who thought it was serious.

This triggered an idea in Colleen, who began emphasizing the characteristics of Miranda that people disliked and posting more videos.

Miranda, the egotistical and selfish figure who is also impatient, ludicrously self-absorbed, and socially awkward, quickly becomes a favourite of the audience.

Colleen Ballinger’s YouTube channel’s popularity led to further opportunities for her as a comedian, and she was frequently invited to play Miranda in live performances.

Encouraged by her rising success, Colleen launched a second Miranda YouTube channel, ‘Mirandavlogz,’ where she posted videos from 2010 until 2012. She also has her own YouTube channel, ‘PsychoSoprano,’ where she posts comedy and question-and-answer videos.

Colleen Ballinger’s already-famous career took off after her marriage to fellow YouTuber Joshua David Evans—his proposal video has over 6 million views on YouTube, and the couple’s wedding video has over 11 million views.

Colleen has received multiple awards, including Teen Choice-Choice Web Star: Comedy in 2015 and Streamy Award-Performance Awards: Best Actress in 2015.

Personal Life

Ballinger visited New York City in 2010 to pursue performance opportunities. Still, she returned to the West Coast in 2012 after recognizing the need to engage with the Los Angeles YouTube community to maximize her YouTube following.

After several years of dating, Ballinger and Joshua Evans decided to get married in California in July 2015. Ballinger and Evans announced their divorce in separate YouTube videos in September 2016.

Ballinger met actor Erik Stocklin in 2016 when she cast him in Haters Back Off as Miranda’s love interest, Patrick.

The pair met in early 2018 and married later that year. They are both blessed with wonderful children, namely Flynn Timothy Stocklin, born on December 10, 2018, and twin girls and boys, Maisy Joanne and Wesley Koy Stocklin, born on November 6, 2021, are the couple’s three children.
