Early Life & Education

Richard Brandon Coleman, now 34 years old, was born on February 25, 1989, in Charleston, South Carolina, to Richard Coleman Sr. and Brenda Coleman. He was an only child and grew up in a Christian household.

He attended Burke High School, where he became interested in music and poetry. He learned to play the piano, guitar, and drums and started writing songs and raps.

He also joined the choir and the drama club and participated in several talent shows and competitions.

He graduated from high school in 2007 and enrolled in the College of Charleston, where he majored in music and minored in theology.

He continued to pursue his passion for music and performed at various venues and events on and off campus. He also became involved in the local hip-hop scene and collaborated with other artists and producers.

He graduated from college in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in music.

Personal Life

Richard Brandon Coleman met Cora Jakes, the daughter of the famous pastor T. D. Jakes, in 2010, when he was invited to perform at a youth conference hosted by her father’s church, The Potter’s House, in Dallas, Texas.

They hit it off and started dating shortly after. They got engaged in 2011 and tied the knot on June 4, 2011, in a lavish ceremony attended by their families, friends, celebrities, and dignitaries.

They settled in Dallas and became active members of The Potter’s House, where Richard occasionally sang and preached.

They also decided to adopt two children, a girl named Amauri and a boy named Jason, who were both from foster care. They appeared happy and loving family and often shared their photos and videos on social media.

However, their marriage was not as perfect as it seemed. In 2018, Richard was diagnosed with kidney failure and had to undergo dialysis and a kidney transplant.

He said that his condition was a result of his drug abuse in his teenage years, which he had kept a secret from his wife and the public.

He also said that his faith and his music helped him cope with his illness and his recovery. He released a mixtape, Alpha, in 2019, chronicling his journey and gratitude to God and his wife.

However, in 2020, a shocking scandal rocked their marriage and reputation. Richard was arrested and charged with sexual abuse of his adopted daughter Amauri, who was 13 years old at the time.

He was accused of molesting her repeatedly since she was 10 and threatening her to keep quiet.

He was also accused of manipulating the biological mother of his adopted son Jason into letting them adopt him by promising her money and a better life but never fulfilling his promises. He denied the allegations and claimed he was innocent and loved his children.

Cora Jakes filed for divorce in 2021, citing irreconcilable differences and the children’s best interest. She also obtained a restraining order against Richard and sought full custody of the children.

She said she was devastated and betrayed by Richard’s actions and focused on healing and protecting her children. She also said that she forgave and prayed for him but could not stay with him.

The divorce was finalized in 2022, and Cora Jakes was granted full custody of the children, while Richard was ordered to pay child support and alimony. He is in jail, awaiting trial, and faces up to 20 years if convicted.
