Education

Dave Grohl’s passion for music started at a young age, leading him to prioritize his musical pursuits over completing a traditional education.

Despite attending various high schools in Virginia, he ultimately chose to drop out during his junior year to fully commit himself to playing in bands such as Freak Baby and Scream.

Personal Life

In 1994, Dave Grohl married photographer Jennifer Leigh Youngblood from Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Unfortunately, their marriage ended in divorce in 1997 after they separated in December 1996.

The couple now resides in Los Angeles with their three daughters, born in 2006, 2009, and 2014. As estimated by a 2012 Stereogum article, Grohl’s fortune was $260 million. At that time, he was considered the third-wealthiest drummer in the world, following Ringo Starr and Phil Collins.

For the past 20 years, this musician has had to rely on lip reading due to his tinnitus, a condition that became even more challenging when face masks became a part of daily life during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite the availability of in-ear monitors that could protect his ears, he chooses not to use them because they distance him from the natural sounds of his bandmates.

His finely tuned ears still pick up subtle sonic details, such as differences between cymbal crashes, showcasing his dedication to his craft despite the obstacles he faces.
