He grew up in Leytonstone, a suburb of east London, with his parents and two sisters, Lynne Georgina Beckham and Joanne Louise Beckham.

His father was a kitchen fitter, and his mother was a hairdresser. He inherited his love for football from his father, who was a fan of Manchester United.

He attended Chase Lane Primary School and Chingford County High School, where he excelled in sports and art. He also played for the local youth team, Ridgeway Rovers, and joined the Essex County Football Association’s School of Excellence at 14.

He had a trial with Leyton Orient but was not offered a contract. He then successfully trialed with Tottenham Hotspur and signed a schoolboy contract with them in 1989.

However, he left Tottenham in 1991 when he was spotted by a Manchester United scout at a youth tournament in Manchester. He signed as a trainee with Manchester United, and moved to Manchester to join their youth academy.

Personal Life

David Beckham met Victoria Adams, better known as Posh Spice of the pop group Spice Girls, in 1997 at a charity football match.

They started dating and became one of the most celebrity couples worldwide. They engaged in 1998 and married on July 4, 1999, at Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland.

The wedding was lavish, with a reported cost of £500,000. The couple have four children: Brooklyn, born in 1999; Romeo, born in 2002; Cruz, born in 2005; and Harper, born in 2011. Depending on David’s football career, the family has lived in various places, such as Manchester, Madrid, Los Angeles, Milan, Paris, and London.

They currently reside in Miami, where David is the president and co-owner of Inter Miami, a new M.L.S. franchise.

The couple are known for their stylish and glamorous lifestyle, and have been dubbed “Brand Beckham” by the media. They have also been involved in various charitable and humanitarian causes, such as UNICEF, Malaria No More, and the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Career

David Beckham’s career as a professional footballer spanned over two decades and saw him play for some of the most successful clubs in the world. He debuted for Manchester United in 1992 at 17 and became a regular first-team member.

He won six Premier League titles, two F.A. Cups, and the UEFA Champions League in 1999 with Manchester United and became one of the world’s most popular and influential players.

He was known for his exceptional ability to deliver accurate and powerful free kicks and crosses, often resulting in spectacular goals or assists.

He also became the captain of the England national team in 2000 and led them to the quarter-finals of the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups and the Euro 2004.

He is the first English player to score in three consecutive World Cups and the second to score from three direct free kicks in World Cup finals.

In 2003, he joined Real Madrid as one of the “Galácticos,” a group of star players that included Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, and Luis Figo.

He won the La Liga title with Real Madrid in 2007, his last season with the club. He then moved to L.A. Galaxy in the Major League Soccer, where he won two M.L.S. Cups in 2011 and 2012.

He also had two loan spells with AC Milan in 2009 and 2010 and a brief stint with Paris Saint-Germain in 2013, where he won the Ligue 1 title in his final match as a professional player.

He retired from football in 2013, having played 762 matches and scored 129 goals for club and country. He has won 19 major trophies in his career and has been named in the FIFA 100 list of the world’s greatest living players.

After retiring from football, Beckham has pursued various business, media, and sports ventures. He is the president and co-owner of Inter Miami, a new M.L.S. franchise that debuted in 2020.

Controversy

David Beckham has faced controversy and criticism in his career and personal life. Some of the most notable incidents are:

In 1998, he was sent off in the World Cup quarter-final against Argentina after kicking Diego Simeone in retaliation for a foul. England lost the match on penalties, and many fans and media blamed Beckham for the defeat.

He received death threats and abuse from some angry supporters and was burned in effigy in some places. He later redeemed himself by scoring a penalty against Argentina in the 2002 World Cup and becoming the national team captain.

In 2004, he was accused of having an affair with his assistant, Rebecca Loos, while he was married to Victoria. He denied the allegations and said they were part of a plot to damage his reputation and extort his money.

He and Victoria remained together and sued several newspapers for libel and invasion of privacy. They also renewed their wedding vows in 2006 and have shown a strong and united front as a couple and a family.

In 2010, he was involved in a lawsuit with a prostitute, Irma Nici, who claimed that she had sex with him in 2007. He denied the claims and sued her and the magazine that published her story, In Touch, for defamation and emotional distress.

He said he had never met her and was in another country at the time of the alleged encounter. He also said that the story was a deliberate attempt to harm his marriage and his image.

The lawsuit was dismissed by a U.S. judge in 2012 because the First Amendment protected the magazine. Beckham appealed the decision but later dropped the case in 2013.
