DJ Cuppy, the renowned Nigerian DJ Florence Otedola, recently opened up about her past struggles with saying “YES” too often, citing her regret over agreeing to marry her now-ex-fiance, Ryan Taylor. At a recent event abroad, DJ Cuppy reflected on the importance of setting boundaries and the liberating power of saying “no.”

In a candid moment, DJ Cuppy revealed, “One of the things I have learned is saying no. I had one of the worst years of my life last year because I couldn’t say no.” She expressed remorse for not declining opportunities and commitments that ultimately led to burnout, including her engagement to Ryan Taylor.

Recalling the challenging period, she admitted, “I didn’t say no to opportunities that I should have said no to. I didn’t say no to a fiancé I should’ve said no to.” DJ Cuppy recounted juggling multiple responsibilities, from hosting a morning breakfast show at the BBC to DJing, planning a wedding, and pursuing studies at Oxford University. The overwhelming workload took a toll on her well-being and highlighted the importance of prioritizing self-care.

Her revelation sheds light on the societal pressure to constantly say “YES” and the detrimental impact it can have on mental health. DJ Cuppy emphasized the necessity of setting boundaries and honoring personal limits, urging others to embrace the power of saying “NO.”

DJ Cuppy‘s candid remarks come after her highly publicized split from Ryan Taylor in July 2023, just seven months after their engagement in November 2022. Their breakup is a poignant reminder of the significance of recognizing and respecting one’s needs and boundaries in relationships and life pursuits.
