Early Life And Education

Eazy-E, whose real name was Eric Lynn Wright, was born and raised in Compton, California, on September 7, 1964.

Growing up in a neighbourhood known for gang activity and violence, Eazy-E’s perspective and experiences were undoubtedly shaped by his environment.

He dropped out of high school in 10th grade and turned to the streets, reportedly involved in drug dealing for some time.

However, this activity also gave him the capital to invest in his future music career. Eventually, Eazy-E left the drug trade behind and focused on the music industry.

He co-founded Ruthless Records, which played a pivotal role in launching his successful musical journey.

Career

N.W.A., also known as “the world’s most dangerous group,” rose to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s with their unique blend of rap music.

The original lineup consisted of Arabian Prince, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, and Ice Cube, with D.J. Yella and MC Ren joining later. The group’s first album, N.W.A. and the Posse, was released in 1987 and became certified Gold in the United States.

This album featured previously released singles from Macola Records, a label that distributed the releases of other West Coast rap artists such as the Fila Fresh Crew.

Eazy-E’s debut album, Eazy-Duz-It, was released in 1988 and featured twelve tracks. It was considered groundbreaking, as it was one of the first albums to popularize gangsta rap and West Coast hip hop.

Despite its controversial lyrics, the album was a commercial success, selling over 2.5 million copies in the United States alone.

It was produced by Dr. Dre and D.J. Yella and featured writing from MC Ren, Ice Cube, and The D.O.C.

Some critics even argued that Eazy-Duz-It paved the way for N.W.A.’s most infamous album, Straight Outta Compton.

Despite his minimal solo contributions, Eazy-E’s presence and influence were felt throughout the album, showcasing his raw talent and potential as a solo artist.

Despite leaving N.W.A After getting into a diss war with the group, Ice Cube maintained a presence in the music scene.

He released his solo album, Death Certificate 1991, which included the infamous diss track “No Vaseline.”

Meanwhile, N.W.A continued as a four-piece ensemble and released two more albums, 100 Miles and Runnin’ and Niggaz4Life.

However, tensions between Ice Cube and the group continued, as evident in their back-and-forth diss tracks.

In a surprising move, Eazy-E, a former member of N.W.A., supported then-U.S. President George H. W. Bush by attending a Republican Senatorial Inner Circle lunch in March 1991.

This caused some controversy, as Eazy-E’s spokesperson stated, due to the president’s performance in the Gulf War.
