Early Life

Eddie Nketiah, the prodigious footballer from London, was born on May 30th, 1999. The youngest member of a family that boasted two older sisters, he was born to his father, Eddie Nketiah Snr, and mother, who keeps a low profile but has been spotted with him on several occasions.

Growing up in Lewisham, he spent his formative years playing football on the streets, where he quickly became a standout player. His raw talent and flair for the game were noticed, and he was soon invited to join the local team. There, he caught the attention of Chelsea FC, who scouted him while he was playing locally and invited him to join their academy in 2008.

Eddie Nketiah‘s passion for football can be traced back to his parents, who hail from Ghana. Although he was born in the UK, his ancestry is firmly rooted in Ghana, not Nigeria, as some have erroneously assumed.

As he continues making a name for himself on the football field, fans and critics eagerly await Eddie Nketiah‘s next move. Will he continue to dazzle us with his incredible skills and lightning-fast reflexes? Only time will tell. But one thing is certain: he is a name that will be on everyone’s lips for years.

Career

Eddie Nketiah embarked on his footballing odyssey at Chelsea, where the club spied him at the tender age of nine, exhibiting his prodigious talent whilst plying his trade with the south-east London Sunday team Hillyfielders. Nevertheless, despite his potential, his stint at Stamford Bridge proved ephemeral as he was shown the exit door in 2015. This compelled him to seek refuge in Arsenal’s Academy, where he gradually climbed the ranks, displaying his mettle at various youth levels, ultimately earning a coveted senior team call-up for the club’s pre-season excursion to Australia and China under the stewardship of the revered Arsène Wenger.

Eddie Nketiah‘s first-team bow came in a Europa League encounter against BATE Borisov on September 28, 2017, as he made a cameo appearance, replacing Joe Willock in the 89th minute. In his subsequent outing, the diminutive striker conjured up a magical brace as a substitute in extra time against Norwich City in the League Cup. He was on the verge of joining German Bundesliga side FC Augsburg on loan in the January 2019 transfer window, but fate intervened as an injury to Danny Welbeck scuppered the move, keeping him in the Arsenal fold.

In the 2019-20 pre-season, Eddie Nketiah was a regular member of Arsenal’s first team, dispatching four goals in pre-season friendlies against Bayern Munich and Fiorentina. He then moved to Leeds United on loan on August 8, 2019, for the 2019-20 season, where he opened his account with a goal against Salford City in the EFL Cup, followed by a strike against Brentford in the Championship.

Unfortunately, Eddie Nketiah fell out of favour with Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa, as he languished behind Patrick Bamford in the pecking order. However, he was afforded an opportunity to showcase his wares as the first-choice striker against Queens Park Rangers, but a cruel lower abdomen injury scuppered his chances, sidelining him for a month. After a year on the sidelines, he finally regained full fitness.

Eddie Nketiah‘s impressive performances caught the attention of his parent club, and he was recalled from his loan spell early in January 2020. He kicked off his second stint with the Gunners in style, starting in Arsenal’s FA Cup Fourth Round victory over AFC Bournemouth, where he found the back of the net. The striker’s fortunes worsened when he received his first career red card in a league game against Leicester City on July 7, 2020.

Notwithstanding the red card, Eddie Nketiah was not deterred, and he bagged his first major trophy with Arsenal when the team won the FA Cup in July 2020. He tasted championship glory with Leeds United, playing a pivotal role in their English Championship triumph. The striker picked up from where he left off in the 2020-21 season, opening his account in a Premier League win over West Ham United, followed by a hat-trick against Sunderland in the EFL Cup quarter-finals on December 21, 2021.

On the international level, he made his England U18 international debut and scored four goals for England’s under-19 team against the Faroe Islands in a UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifier in November 2017. Eddie Nketiah was later called up to the England U21 team for the Toulon Tournament in May 2018, where he scored twice against Scotland in the semi-finals and set up Kieran Dowell for the game-winning goal against Mexico in the final.
