A Premier League match between AFC Bournemouth and Luton Town was suspended after Luton captain Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch without any contact from another player. The incident occurred in the 59th minute, prompting referee Simon Hooper to halt the game and allow medical staff to attend to the 29-year-old defender.

Players from both teams immediately showed concern for Lockyer, and Luton manager Rob Edwards entered the field to make space for the medics. Both teams eventually made their way to the dressing rooms, with the crowd chanting for Lockyer‘s well-being.

After being stretchered off and taken to a local hospital for further examination, Lockyer was reported to be responsive. The match was eventually abandoned, with both teams returning to the pitch to applaud the crowd.

The Premier League released a statement expressing their thoughts for Tom Lockyer and all players involved in the match. This incident comes after Lockyer had previously collapsed during the play-off final against Coventry in May, where he underwent heart surgery and was given the all-clear to resume playing in June.

The football community has shown an outpouring of support for the Welsh centre-back, with fans and players wishing him a speedy recovery. This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the importance of player safety and the need for continued vigilance in monitoring the health of athletes.
