He later enrolled in the University of Vermont but dropped out after a year to pursue his musical career.

Career

Malcolm Ford started his musical career in 2008 when he formed The Dough Rollers with Jack Byrne, whom he met in high school.

Byrne taught Malcolm how to play the guitar, and they bonded over their love for blues, country, and rock music. They initially performed as a duo, playing covers of old songs by artists like Robert Johnson, Blind Willie McTell, and Hank Williams.

They later added singer Julia Tepper to their lineup and experimented with different genres and styles. They released their self-titled debut album in 2010, which featured 10 tracks of original and traditional songs.

However, Tepper left the band soon after, and Malcolm and Byrne continued as a two-piece band. They released their second album, Someday Baby, in 2011, which contained 12 tracks of blues and rock music.

They also toured extensively, opening for acts like Bob Dylan, Queens of the Stone Age, and John Mellencamp.

In 2013, they expanded their band by hiring drummer Kyle Olsen and bassist Josh Barocas and signed with Jack White’s record label, Third Man Records. They released their first EP, Gone Baby Gone, in 2014, which showcased their evolution and maturity as a band.

The EP received positive reviews from critics and fans and was praised for its catchy melodies, raw vocals, and energetic performances. The Dough Rollers have been working on their third album, which is expected to be released in 2023.

They have also collaborated with other artists, such as singer-songwriter Elle King, Malcolm‘s cousin. Malcolm is the lead singer and guitarist of the band and also writes most of the songs.
