The group got its start as a Christian rock group. Later, their sound transformed into the indie rock subgenre. Since their formation 15 years ago, the trio has been experimenting with psych-pop and synthwave. Jose Cruz joined as a keyboardist and sound engineer in 2020, and Luis Portillo joined as a drummer.

Career

When Inner Wave first formed, they were a Christian rock band, but as time passed, they incorporated psychedelic and synth-wave elements into their music. Before releasing their debut album, III, in 2013, the group independently released several EPs.

Underwater Pipe Dreams, their second album, received favorable reviews upon release in 2017.

Live at the Fonda, Los Angeles, 2019 is a concert album by Inner Wave that was released in 2019. Apoptosis, their third album, released in 2021, was their best-selling record. On the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart, the album peaked at number one and was mentioned on many year-end lists.

One of the twenty-first century’s most intriguing indie rock bands is Inner Wave. They combine different genres to create music that is both catchy and reflective. In the years to come, they will continue to grow in popularity.
