Career
The best part about Kika Osunde‘s business was that hair was already a way of life for her and not just a business concept. She has good hair and used to play around with so many different haircuts, colors, and looks that she later became a weave and wig specialist.
Chioma Ikokwu and Kika Osunde were passionate about fashion, hair, and make-up. For both of them, the unifying factor was how powerful and happy they felt about their overall appearance. “Your hair is so wonderful!” was a popular she gets from people very often. “Can you tell me where I can acquire it?” As a result of the frequent compliments and unending questions, she decided to start making hair.
Kika Osunde and Chioma Ikokwu began selling hair to close relatives and friends. They turned the company into a full-fledged brand as it flourished.
The enjoyable part was turning their passion into a brand; they spent a lot of time developing and creating the brand. To begin, they created a logo that evoked the sense of glamour and luxury that they wanted the company to represent. Everything was picked to develop the brand personality, from the italic style of the font to the colors chosen (white and gold).
Social media was the major key to their success at the early stage of the brand. Facebook, in particular, played a huge part as they reached a following of over 135,000 fans in just 2 years. It was a great platform to promote the hair. They provided direct personal contact to their clients. This allowed them to feel valued and made the brand feel more accessible and approachable.
This wasn’t an easy journey as they had to constantly work around the clock to engage clients worldwide, which started to take a toll on her health. Kika Osunde started getting lumps all over her body from stress, lack of sleep, and exhaustion. She struggled with having a good work-life balance while keeping the Facebook page exciting with new feeds and updates– it took a lot of time and energy as it was just the two of them (Kika Osunde and Chioma Ikokwu) at the time.
