Early Life

Lara Catherina Stone was born in Geldrop, Netherlands, on September 3, 1983. She was the daughter of a Dutch mother and an English father who worked as a chemical analyst.

Growing up in the small town of Mierlo, Stone was discovered at just 12 by a talent scout from Elite Model Management. However, her parents insisted that she finish her education before pursuing a career in modelling.

Stone attended a local high school and later enrolled in college to study psychology. However, after just one year, she dropped out to focus on her modelling career full-time.

Personal Life

In a magazine interview published in December 2009, singer Joss Stone revealed that she had spent time in a treatment facility earlier that year to address her struggles with alcoholism.

Around the same time, Stone began dating British comedian David Walliams. They got engaged in January 2010 and tied the knot at a posh hotel in London in May of the same year.

In November 2012, the couple announced they were expecting their first child, a son due mid-2013. Stone gave birth to their baby, whom they named Alfred, in May of that year.

However, after five years of marriage, Stone and Walliams separated in early 2015, citing that they had grown apart. Walliams filed for divorce on the grounds of Stone’s unreasonable behavior, and they were granted a decree nisi, effectively ending their marriage, in September of that year.

In July 2021, Stone married a property developer named David Grievson.

Career

After leaving Elite, Lara Stone signed with IMG Models worldwide in 2006. She debuted on the catwalk in Riccardo Tisci’s Givenchy couture shows during Paris Fashion Week.

Stone was featured in Vogue Paris and ranked No. 2 on New York Magazine’s “Top Ten Models to Watch” for New York Fashion Week. She has opened and closed shows for numerous designers, such as Chanel, Diesel, and Stella McCartney, and has also worked on several campaigns for Givenchy, Calvin Klein, and H&M.

Stone was photographed for the 2009 Pirelli Calendar and appeared on the cover of Vogue Paris in February 2009, where she expressed her dislike for the runway and the challenge of finding shoes that fit her tiny feet.

She was named “Fashion’s It Girl” on the W magazine cover in August 2009 and featured on the May 2009 cover of American Vogue alongside other top models.

In 2010, Stone replaced Sasha Pivovarova as the face of Prada’s fragrance Infusion d’Iris and won the British Fashion Awards Model of the Year.

Stone was featured in the Pirelli Calendar in 2011 and 2012 and was part of Vogue UK’s first multi-cover. She has been ranked as the #1 model on models.com’s “Top 50 Models” list and the 9th sexiest model on their Top Sexiest Models list.

In March 2014, Stone appeared on the cover of Vogue Paris and, in April, American Harper’s Bazaar. In March 2015, Stone appeared on one of three Vogue Paris covers alongside Kate Moss and Daria Werbowy and was also on the August cover of British Vogue.
