She moved to Vancouver, Canada, with her mother and brother when she was two. She attended elementary school in Vancouver but dropped out in 2018 to pursue her online career. Her mother currently homeschools her.

Personal Life

Lil Tay has not been romantically linked to anyone publicly. She is focused on her career and personal growth. She has stated that she does not care what others think of her and is living her best life.

She is close to her mother and brother, who support her endeavours. She has also collaborated with famous internet personalities, such as Woah Vicky, Bhad Bhabie, and Jake Paul.

Career

Lil Tay started her career in 2018 when she began posting pictures and videos on Instagram and YouTube, in which she was showing off stacks of cash, expensive cars, and designer clothes.

She claimed she was a self-made millionaire and owned multiple properties.

She also used vulgar language and insults to mock her haters and other celebrities. She quickly gained millions of followers, views, media attention, and controversy.

She appeared on Good Morning America and was interviewed by Michael Strahan, who questioned her about her lifestyle and behaviour. She defended herself by saying she was just being herself and inspiring others to chase their dreams.

Lil Tay also ventured into music, releasing her debut single, “Money Way“, in April 2018, followed by “No Cap” in May 2018.

Both songs received mixed reviews from critics and fans and generated millions of streams and downloads.

She announced she was working on her first album, featuring collaborations with famous artists, such as Chief Keef, Lil Pump, and Trippie Redd.

However, her online presence abruptly ended in mid-2018 after her father applied to the Superior Court of Canada for full custody and control of her career as an influencer.

He claimed that her mother was exploiting her and exposing her to harmful environments. He also revealed that Lil Tay’s videos were staged and that she was using rented cars and houses and her mother’s clients’ money.

Lil Tay went silent for almost five years, during which she was involved in a legal battle between her parents. She also faced cyberbullying and harassment from online trolls, who mocked her for being exposed as a fraud.

She deleted all her social media accounts and avoided the public eye. In 2023, full custody was awarded to her mother, and she returned to Los Angeles and internet fame.

She relaunched her Instagram account and posted a video of herself apologizing for her past actions and announcing her comeback.

She also released a new song, “Sucker 4 Green”, in September of 2023, which was accompanied by a music video that showed her in a more mature and positive light.

The song and the video were well-received by her fans and critics, who praised her for her growth and talent. She stated that she had learned from her mistakes and was ready to take over the music industry.

Net Worth

Lil Tay’s net worth is estimated to be around $600k. She earns her income from her music sales and streams and her endorsements, sponsorships, and merchandise.

Controversy

Lil Tay has been involved in several controversies throughout her career, mainly due to her provocative and controversial online persona. Some of the most notable ones are:

In April 2018, she got into a physical altercation with Bhad Bhabie, another internet personality and rapper, at the Coachella music festival.

The fight was recorded and posted online by Woah Vicky, another internet personality and friend of Lil Tay.

The video showed Lil Tay and Woah Vicky confronting and taunting Bhad Bhabie, who then lunged at them and threw punches. Lil Tay claimed that she was defending herself and that Bhad Bhabie was jealous of her success.

In May 2018, she was exposed by her father, Christopher Hope, who revealed that her videos were fake and that she was using rented cars and houses and her mother’s clients’ money. He also claimed that her mother was exploiting her and exposing her to harmful environments.

He filed a lawsuit against her mother, Angela Tian, for full custody and control of Lil Tay’s career as an influencer. He also demanded that Lil Tay stop posting online and return to school.

Lil Tay’s mother denied the allegations and accused her father of being abusive and neglectful. She also said that Lil Tay was happy and that she was supporting her dreams.

In June 2018, she was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department for driving a Ferrari without a license. She posted a video of herself driving the car on a busy street while her brother was filming her from the passenger seat.

She also said she was 14 years old, even though she was only 10. The video sparked outrage and criticism from the public, who accused her of being reckless and irresponsible. The police said they were looking into the matter and would take appropriate action if necessary.

In July 2018, she was accused of racism and cultural appropriation by some of her fans and critics, who noticed that she was wearing a Chinese dress and a wig in one of her videos. They said that she was disrespecting and mocking the Chinese culture and that she was trying to look Asian.

Lil Tay said she was proud of her Chinese heritage and was not trying to offend anyone. She also said that she was wearing the dress and the wig as a tribute to her grandmother, who had passed away recently.
