Early Life & Education

Marine Le Pen, currently at 55, was born on August 5, 1968, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France.

She is the youngest of three daughters born to Jean-Marie Le Pen, a Breton politician and former paratrooper, and his first wife, Pierrette Le Pen.

Le Pen was baptized on April 25, 1969, at La Madeleine Church in Paris. She grew up with her two older sisters, Yann and Marie Caroline.

During her childhood, Le Pen experienced a traumatic event when a bomb intended for her father exploded in the stairwell of their apartment building while they were asleep. Fortunately, the blast did not harm Le Pen or her family.

She attended the Lycée Florent Schmitt in Saint-Cloud for her education. However, when Le Pen was 16 years old, her mother left the family, causing her immense pain and feelings of abandonment. Her parents eventually divorced in 1987.

Le Pen pursued her higher education at Panthéon-Assas University, where she studied law. In 1991, she graduated with a Master of Laws degree, and in 1992, she obtained a Master of Advanced Studies (DEA) in criminal law. Le Pen also became a registered member of the Paris Bar Association.

Le Pen was raised in a Roman Catholic family. She married Franck Chauffroy, a business executive affiliated with the National Front, in 1995.

Together, they have three children named Jehanne, Louis, and Mathilde. However, their marriage ended in divorce in 2000.

In 2002, Le Pen married Eric Lorio, the national secretary of the National Front and a former adviser to the Regional election in Nord-Pas-de-Calais. The couple later divorced in 2006.

From 2009 to 2019, Le Pen was in a relationship with Louis Aliot, who has French Pied-Noir and Algerian Jewish heritage. Aliot served as the National Front general secretary from 2005 to 2010 and subsequently as the National Front vice president.

Le Pen currently resides in La Celle-Saint-Cloud with her three children. She also owns an apartment in Hénin-Beaumont. In 2010, she and Aliot purchased a house together in Millas.

Career

Le Pen’s political career began in 1986 when she joined the National Front at 18. She obtained her first political mandate in 1988 when she was elected as a Regional Councillor for Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

During this time, she also became involved with the FN’s juridical branch, which she led until 2003.

Her involvement in the FN increased, and she joined the FN Executive Committee in 2000. In 2003, she was appointed vice president of the FN, responsible for training, communication, and publicity.

Le Pen was crucial in managing her father’s presidential campaign in 2006. She became one of the two executive vice presidents of the FN in 2007.

Throughout her career, Le Pen held various political positions, including serving as a regional councilor for Nord-Pas-de-Calais (1998–2004, 2010–2015), Île-de-France (2004–2010), and Hauts-de-France (2015–2021). She also served as a Member of the European Parliament (2004–2017) and a municipal councilor of Hénin-Beaumont (2008–2011).

Le Pen’s most significant achievement within the National Front was winning the party’s leadership election in 2011. She secured 67.6% of the vote, defeating Bruno Gollnisch and succeeding her father as the party president.

In 2012, she ran for the French presidency and finished third in the election’s first round. Le Pen launched a second bid for the presidency in 2017, where she finished second in the first round and faced Emmanuel Macron in the runoff. Although she did not win, she received significant support, receiving 33.9% of the vote.

Le Pen announced her third candidacy for the French presidency in the 2022 election. She secured second place in the first round with 23.2% of the votes, qualifying her for the runoff against Macron.

However, she ultimately lost, receiving 41.5% of the votes in the second round.

Controversy

Throughout her political career, Le Pen has been involved in several controversies. One notable incident occurred in 2010 when she compared the use of public streets for Muslim prayers to the Nazi occupation of France during a speech.

Her comments received criticism from various groups and individuals, including government officials, religious organizations, and human rights associations. Le Pen faced legal proceedings but was eventually acquitted of “inciting hatred” in 2015.

Net Worth

Marine Le Pen has an estimated net worth of $5 million.

Her wealth primarily comes from her political career and involvement in the National Front/Rally party.
