Controversy

Marlon Wayans has been involved in some controversies throughout his career, such as:

• Being sued by Pierre Daniel, an actor who appeared as an extra in A Haunted House 2, for making fun of his appearance in a social media post. Wayans posted a photo of Daniel on Instagram and Twitter, comparing him to Cleveland Brown, a character from the animated series Family Guy. Daniel claimed that Wayan’s post caused him emotional distress and damaged his reputation. The case was dismissed by a judge in 2015, who ruled that the First Amendment protected Wayan’s post.
• Being accused of stealing jokes from other comedians, such as Kat Williams, Dave Chappelle, and Kevin Hart. Wayans denied the allegations and said he respects his fellow comedians and does not need to copy their material. He also said that he has been in the comedy business for a long time and has enough original jokes to make people laugh.
• Was criticized for his portrayal of a gay character in the film White Chicks, where he and his brother Shawn played two FBI agents who disguised themselves as white women. Some critics and viewers found the film offensive and stereotypical, especially the scene where Marlon’s character kissed another man.

Wayans defended the film and said that it was not meant to be homophobic or racist but rather a satire of the social and cultural differences between races and genders. He also said that he had nothing against gay people and that he was playing a role.
