Career

In 1988, Max du Preez was pivotal in establishing a weekly Afrikaans-language newspaper named Vrye Weekblad, translating to Free Weekly. In 1999, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) removed Max du Preez from his position as the executive editor of Special Assignment, a prominent investigative TV program. The public vehemently protested the dismissal of the popular radio presenter, sparking a campaign for his reinstatement. The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) faced scrutiny for handling the situation, resulting in complaints filed with the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa. Many viewed this incident as a clear indication that the once-independent SABC was willingly transforming into a mere tool for state propaganda.
