She was born in Lebanon in the early 90s and had a Catholic upbringing in a family with conservative values. Her family moved to the United States when she was eight, seeking refuge from the South Lebanon conflict. Despite being a bright and ambitious student, Mia Khalifa‘s experiences in school were marred by bullying, which she attributed to her darker skin and tendency to stand out as a “weird” individual.

After finishing high school, Mia Khalifa attended the prestigious Massanutten Military Academy in Virginia, where she developed a strong work ethic and a sense of discipline that would serve her well in her future endeavors. Later on, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Texas at El Paso, all while working multiple jobs, including bartending and modeling. Her decision to enter this industry was controversial, especially given her Lebanese background and the cultural taboos surrounding such work.

Nevertheless, Mia Khalifa‘s striking looks and uninhibited performances quickly made her a fan favorite, and she became one of the most popular performers on the popular adult site Pornhub. However, her work was not without its detractors, particularly after a scene in which she wore a headscarf during a sexual act, which drew widespread criticism from many in the Middle East.

Personal Life

Mia Khalifa‘s pilgrimage has been filled with twists and turns, and her life has been a fascinating subject of conversation for many. Her decision to leave the Catholic faith and get tattoos of the first line of the Lebanese national anthem and the Lebanese Forces Cross in 2015 marked a significant turning point in her life, showcasing her passion for her country and beliefs.

As the daughter of a prominent political figure in Lebanon, Mia Khalifa had a deep connection to her father’s political views and, as such, was deeply affected by the Beirut bombing in October 2012. The Lebanese Forces Cross tattoo she got symbolized her sympathy for the tragedy and her support for her father’s political views.

Despite her passion for her country and her beliefs, Mia Khalifa‘s decision to pursue a career in the adult film industry caused a significant rift between her and her parents, who were not pleased with her decision. In a statement, they expressed their hopes that she would abandon her chosen career path and disavow her actions, citing cultural differences and a belief that her actions did not reflect her upbringing.

In her personal life, Mia Khalifa has experienced both love and heartbreak. She was previously married to Wyatt O’Brien from 2011 to 2016 and later tied the knot with Robert Sandberg in 2020. Her relationship with Jhay Cortez began in 2022 and has been the subject of much speculation and interest.

Career

Mia Khalifa‘s foray into the adult entertainment industry is a controversial topic that has garnered much attention over the years. She started her career in the industry in October 2014, taking her stage name from a combination of Wiz Khalifa‘s and her dog’s name. She quickly gained notoriety when a video was released of her participating in a threesome while wearing a hijab, sparking condemnation from religious leaders and writers alike. Her parents publicly disowned her, blaming their cultural differences for her choices.

The backlash against her had an unexpected consequence, however. It led to even more exposure for her work as people flocked to see what all the fuss was about. This “Streisand effect” was noted by Alex Hawkins, the vice president of marketing for xHamster. Despite attempts to limit her output, Mia Khalifa‘s popularity grew quickly, eventually reaching 1.5 million views.

Mia Khalifa signed a contract with WGCZ Holding, the parent company of Bang Bros and XVideos, in January 2015. However, two weeks later, she chose to leave the industry due to the unfavorable press that followed her newfound fame. In a 2016 interview, she stated that her work in the industry only lasted three months and was a “phase of her rebellion.”

Despite leaving the industry, Mia Khalifa continued to be one of the most searched adult actresses in the world. Her departure from the industry has been criticized for perpetuating the social stigma against sex work.

Mia Khalifa‘s earnings from the industry have also been a point of contention. In August 2019, she revealed that she had earned around $12,000 from her work in the adult entertainment industry, not including residual payments from free sites hosting her videos. Based on an estimate of ad revenue per view, she could have made over $500,000 if she had been a partner of PornHub.

This revelation led to a Change.org petition with over 1.5 million signatures, demanding the removal of her films from websites such as Pornhub and BangBros, as well as a return of her Internet domains. Mia Khalifa‘s journey in the adult entertainment industry is complex and has sparked many discussions about societal attitudes toward sex work and the exploitation of performers.
