Early Life & Education

Noel Gallagher, who turned 56 in 2023, was born to Irish immigrant parents on May 29, 1967, in Manchester, England.

He grew up in a working-class family and had a difficult childhood marked by poverty, violence and abuse. His father, Thomas Gallagher, was an alcoholic who often beat him and his mother, Peggy Gallagher, and his mother eventually left him when Noel was 13.

Noel grew up alongside two siblings, Paul and Liam Gallagher. He attended St. Mark’s RC Primary School and St. Bernard’s RC Grammar School, but he was not interested in academics and dropped out at the age of 15.

He started as a construction worker and later as a roadie for the Inspiral Carpets band.

He developed a passion for music at an early age and taught himself how to play guitar when he was 12. He was influenced by bands such as The Beatles, The Smiths, The Stone Roses and The Jam.

He also began writing songs and forming bands with his friends.

Personal Life

Noel Gallagher has been married twice and has three children. His first marriage was to Meg Mathews, a publicist he met in 1994.

They had a daughter named Anais, who was born in 2000. However, their marriage ended in divorce after Noel admitted that he had cheated on her with several women. He later claimed that he only married her because she was pregnant and that he never loved her.

His second and current wife is Sara MacDonald, a Scottish public relations executive whom he met in 2000. They have two sons, Donovan and Sonny, born in 2007 and 2010, respectively. They got married in 2011 in a private ceremony in Hampshire.

Noel has described Sara as his soulmate and has credited her for saving him from his drug addiction and depression.

He has also said that he is a devoted father to his children and enjoys spending time with them.

Noel Gallagher has a notorious feud with his younger brother Liam, the lead singer of Oasis. The brothers have had a turbulent relationship since childhood and have often clashed over their musical and personal differences.

They have also insulted each other publicly and have been involved in several physical fights.

Their rivalry peaked in 2009 when Noel quit Oasis after a violent argument with Liam backstage. Since then, they have not spoken to each other and continued criticizing each other in the media. Noel has said he does not miss Liam and does not want to reunite with Oasis.

He has also accused Liam of being a bad father, husband, and brother. On the other hand, Liam has called Noel a liar, coward, and sell-out.

He has also expressed his desire to reconcile with Noel and said he loves him despite their differences.

Career

Noel Gallagher’s career can be divided into two phases: his time with Oasis and his solo career.

Oasis (1991-2009)

Noel Gallagher joined Oasis in 1991 after his brother Liam invited him to be their lead guitarist and songwriter. He also sang lead vocals on some of their songs, such as “Don’t Look Back in Anger” and “Wonderwall”.

He was the main creative force behind the band and wrote most of their songs. He also produced some of their albums and played various instruments like bass, keyboards and drums.

Oasis became one of the most successful and influential bands of the 1990s, leading the Britpop movement with their catchy and anthemic songs.

They released seven studio albums, all reaching number one in the UK and selling over 75 million records worldwide.

Some of their most popular songs include “Live Forever”, “Champagne Supernova”, “Supersonic”, and “Stop Crying Your Heart Out”.

Noel Gallagher was widely praised for his songwriting skills and was called “the finest songwriter of his generation” by Beatles producer George Martin.

He also won several awards for his music, such as the Brit Award for Best British Male, the NME Award for Best Songwriter, and the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music.

However, Oasis also had a turbulent history, marked by frequent conflicts and fights between the Gallagher brothers, as well as drug abuse and legal troubles.

The band had a notorious rivalry with another Britpop band, Blur, and often made headlines for their controversial and outspoken comments.

They also faced several lineup changes, as some members left or were fired due to their disagreements with Noel. The band’s popularity and quality declined in the 2000s as they failed to match their earlier success and innovation.

In 2009, Noel Gallagher quit Oasis after a violent argument with Liam backstage and announced that he would pursue a solo career. He later said he had no regrets about leaving the band and felt liberated and happy.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds (2010-present)

Noel Gallagher formed a new band called Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds in 2010, which consists of himself and various musicians.

He has released four albums: Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds (2011), Chasing Yesterday (2015), Who Built the Moon? (2017) and Back the Way We Came: Vol. 1 (2021). He has also released several EPs, such as Black Star Dancing (2019) and Blue Moon Rising (2020).

His music has been described as more diverse and experimental than his previous work with Oasis and has incorporated elements of psychedelic rock, folk rock, electronic music and orchestral music.

He has also collaborated with artists such as Paul Weller, Johnny Marr, The Chemical Brothers and U2. He has continued to be one of the most respected and influential figures in British music.

He has won several awards, including the NME Godlike Genius Award, the Q Icon Award and the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song Collection.

He has also performed at festivals and venues, such as Glastonbury, Coachella, Royal Albert Hall and Madison Square Garden.

He has said that he enjoys making music for himself and does not care about the critics or the charts. He has also said he is proud of his legacy and hopes to inspire the next generation of musicians.

Net Worth

Noel Gallagher has an estimated net worth of $75 million. He has earned wealth from his music career with Oasis and as a solo artist.

He also owns several properties, such as a mansion in London, a Hampshire farmhouse, and an Ibiza villa. He also has a collection of guitars, cars and art.

He has said that he is uninterested in money and spends it on things that make him happy.

Controversy

Noel Gallagher has been involved in several controversies throughout his career, mostly due to his outspoken and provocative personality.

He has often made controversial statements about other musicians, politicians, celebrities and events and has offended or angered many people. Some of his most controversial remarks include:

Calling Blur’s Damon Albarn and Alex James “morons” and saying that he hoped they would “catch AIDS and die” in 1995.

He later apologized for his comment and said he was drunk and angry then. He also reconciled with Albarn and James in 2015 and performed with them on stage.
