The National Universities Commission (NUC) has begun ranking public universities in Nigeria since there is such a high level of interest in the NUC’s annual ranking of Nigerian universities. The rating of universities in the nation was temporarily put on hold. Still, the commission’s executive secretary clarified early this year that a committee had been formed to guide the commission on university rankings in Nigeria.

The Institution of Ibadan (UI) was named the finest university in the nation according to the NUC Universities Ranking. In contrast, Ladoke Akintola University has been named the best state university in Nigeria.

Every year, Webometric conducts research and ranks Nigerian institutions based on their four rating criteria. The Cybermetrics Lab, a research department of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC), Spain’s largest public research organization, is the organization behind the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities.

The best private university in the country is Covenant University, which came in second place in the 2022 university rankings. Landmark University is another private institution that made the top 10. The University of Ibadan was named the best university in Nigeria. Last but not least, Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho, which is ranked in 12th place, is the finest state university.
