Early Life & Education

Pete Doherty, aged 44, was born on March 12, 1979, in Hexham, Northumberland, England.

He was raised in a military family, with his father, Peter John Doherty, serving as a major in the Royal Signals and his mother, Jacqueline Michels, as a lance-corporal in Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps.

Doherty’s paternal grandfather was an Irish immigrant, while his maternal grandfather was Jewish, with roots in France and Russia.

He grew up with his sisters, AmyJo and Emily, moving between various army garrisons across Britain and continental Europe.

During his time in Dorset at 11, Doherty started playing the guitar to impress a classmate named Emily Baker.

He excelled academically, earning 11 GCSEs and seven A* grades at Nicholas Chamberlaine Comprehensive School in Bedworth, North Warwickshire.

He also achieved four passes at A-Level and two at grade A. At 16, Doherty won a poetry competition and embarked on a tour of Russia organized by the British Council. After completing his A-levels, Doherty moved to London and lived in his grandmother’s flat.

He took a job filling graves in Willesden Cemetery but spent most of his time reading and writing while on gravestones.

He attended Queen Mary, a college of the University of London, to study English literature but left after his first year.

During this time, he moved into a London flat with his friend and fellow musician Carl Barât, a classmate of Doherty’s older sister at Brunel University.

Personal Life

Pete Doherty has had a turbulent personal life marked by struggles with drug addiction. His romantic relationships have also been a subject of interest to the public.

Pete is a proud father of two children. He welcomed his first child, a son named Arstile, with singer Lisa Moorish in 2003.

Afterwards, in 2011, he welcomed his second child, a daughter named Aisling Erin, with South African model Lindi Hingston.

Career

The band gained widespread recognition by releasing their debut album, “Up the Bracket,” in 2002. The Libertines became known for their energetic performances and catchy indie rock sound.

However, Doherty’s drug addiction and legal issues strained his relationship with the band, leading to his temporary departure and eventual disbandment in 2004.

The Libertines reunited in 2010 and released their third studio album, “Anthems for Doomed Youth,” in 2015.

During his time with the Libertines, Doherty founded the band Babyshambles. The group has released three studio albums, including “Down in Albion” (2005), “Shotter’s Nation” (2007), and “Sequel to the Prequel” (2013).

Doherty’s ongoing legal problems and drug addiction have occasionally disrupted the band’s activities and lineup changes.

Doherty has also pursued a solo career, often performing impromptu guerrilla gigs in small venues. He released his debut solo studio album, “Grace/Wastelands,” in 2009, which received critical acclaim.

In 2016, Doherty released his second solo studio album, “Hamburg Demonstrations,” which showcased his growth as an artist and songwriter.
