During his tenure, Pope Francis has shown a remarkable ability to reconcile differences and extend a hand of solidarity. He reached out to Jerónimo Podestá, a former bishop suspended as a priest due to his opposition to the Argentine Revolution’s military government. In a display of support, Pope Francis stood by Jerónimo Podestá‘s wife and defended their marriage against accusations from the Vatican. In a demonstration of his commitment to a smooth transition and adherence to protocol, Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Bishop Neil Tiedemann, an Auxiliary Bishop in Brooklyn, on May 1, 2023.
