The Presidency has fired back at former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar following his criticism of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Presidency dismissed Atiku‘s claims as misguided and ill-informed, accusing him of attempting to undermine the landmark infrastructure project.

The Federal Government recently announced the commencement of construction on the 700km Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, a move aimed at boosting economic development and connectivity across nine states.

However, Atiku had raised concerns over the allocation of the project to Hitech Construction Company Limited, questioning the transparency of the bidding process and cost implications.

In response, the Presidency emphasized the transformative impact of the coastal highway on Nigeria’s economy, stressing its potential to revolutionize agriculture and tourism sectors along the coastal regions.

Furthermore, the Presidency clarified that the coastal highway and the Lagos-Calabar coastal rail projects are distinct initiatives, refuting Atiku‘s confusion over the two projects.

President Bola Tinubu‘s administration was commended for its commitment to national development through strategic infrastructure investments despite attempts by Atiku to discredit the government’s efforts.

The statement urged Atiku to prioritize national interest over personal ambitions, calling on him to refrain from divisive politics and misinformation campaigns.

In conclusion, the Presidency reaffirmed its dedication to advancing Nigeria’s infrastructure agenda and urged Atiku to engage constructively in nation-building efforts.
