Reece James’ early focus on education and football development paid off as he excelled in Chelsea’s prestigious academy from a young age.

At just six years old, his talent was recognized, and he joined the academy, receiving a well-rounded education while honing his skills in the field.

James continued to impress as he progressed through the academy, captaining the U18s to FA Youth Cup victory and earning the Academy Player of the Season award in 2017.

Career

Despite starting his career in grassroots playing for Kew Park Rangers and Epsom Eagles, Reece James quickly caught the attention of Chelsea at the young age of six.

However, he had a brief stint at Fulham before signing with Chelsea. Initially playing as a striker and looking up to Didier Drogba, James was eventually moved to midfield and right-back, where he faced some difficulties.

But he persevered and became a professional with Chelsea in 2017. He then went on to captain the under-18s and earned the Academy Player of the Season title, solidifying his place in the Chelsea squad.

While at Wigan Athletic, James proved himself a valuable player, earning multiple awards and being selected for the Championship Team of the Season.

His impressive performance on the field helped Wigan secure a 3-2 victory against Sheffield Wednesday, and he also scored his first goal for the club in a match against Leeds United.

However, his loan ended after the 2018-19 season, and he returned to his parent club, Manchester United.

Despite this, his time at Wigan showcased his potential and set him up for future success in his career.

James‘ impressive performance on September 25th, 2019, marked his debut for Chelsea after returning from injury.

Just over a month later, James became Chelsea’s youngest-ever goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League, scoring the fourth goal of their 4–4 comeback draw with Ajax on November 5th.

His talent did not go unnoticed, as he signed a long-term contract extension with Chelsea on January 16th, 2020.

James continued to impress throughout the 2020-2021 season, scoring his first Premier League goal on September 14th, 2020, in a 3–1 win against Brighton & Hove Albion.

On December 5th, he reached a milestone of 50 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, cementing his place as a critical player for the club.
