Rick Harrison, currently age 58 as of 2023, was born on March 22, 1965, in Lexington, North Carolina. He grew up as the son of Richard Benjamin Harrison Jr., a U.S. Navy veteran, and Joanne Rhue Harrison.

Rick had two siblings, Sherry Joanne Harrison (who sadly passed away at age 6) and Joseph Kent Harrison, as well as a younger brother, Chris Harrison.

His grandfather mentioned a distant relation to U.S. President William Henry Harrison, although Rick doesn’t attribute much significance to this claim.

Nevertheless, his father did state that the family is distantly related to Benjamin Harrison, a grandson of President William Henry Harrison.

Rick Harrison moved to San Diego, California, with his family during his childhood when his father was transferred there in 1967.

At the age of eight, Rick began experiencing epileptic seizures, which led to him spending considerable time in bed. During this period, he developed a profound love for books and reading.

The series of books that significantly impacted him was “The Great Brain” by John D. Fitzgerald, featuring the adventures of a young con artist named Tom D. Fitzgerald. Rick’s passion for reading extended to his fascination with physics and history, particularly the Royal Navy from the late 1700s to the early 1800s.

Rick Harrison attended Taft Middle School in the San Diego Unified School District. However, he dropped out during tenth grade to pursue a business selling counterfeit Gucci bags, earning him a substantial income of $2,000 weekly.

Personal Life

Rick Harrison’s life has seen its fair share of ups and downs. He has been married four times and is currently married to Amanda Palmer since 2021.

Rick’s previous marriages include Kim Harrison (1982-1985), Tracy Harrison (1986-2011), and Deanna Burditt (2013-2020).

Career

Rick Harrison’s entrepreneurial journey began in 1981 when his father opened the Gold & Silver Coin Shop, a small secondhand store in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Working alongside his father during the day and repossessing cars at night; Rick gained valuable experience in the world of commerce. After a few years, the store expanded and relocated to a larger location on Fremont Street.

Unfortunately, the Harrisons lost their lease at that site. However, their determination to establish a pawn shop led them to acquire a rare and highly coveted pawn license in 1989, shortly after the city’s population exceeded 250,000.

This license allowed them to open the now-famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop at 713 Las Vegas Boulevard South.

Over the years, the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop has garnered a reputation for its unique collection of items, including special sports memorabilia and historical artifacts. Through the shop’s success, Rick Harrison became a prominent figure in the world of pawnbroking, attracting the attention of television producers.

In 2009, the History Channel launched the reality series “Pawn Stars,” featuring Rick Harrison, his family, and the day-to-day operations of the pawn shop. The show became an instant hit, propelling Rick to fame and transforming him into a beloved television personality.

Rick Harrison’s business ventures extend beyond the pawn shop and television. He has authored books, such as “License to Pawn: Deals, Steals, and My Life at the Gold & Silver,” where he shares his experiences and insights into pawnbroking.

Moreover, he actively engages in public speaking engagements, offering entrepreneurial advice and sharing anecdotes from his captivating journey.
