There are not many people that have not heard of Snoop Dogg these days. He has turned from a gangsta rapper into a Hollywood actor and businessman while retaining his music and street credentials. In the meantime, he has also become one of the most successful and wealthiest rappers of all time.

Snoop is well known for his interest away from the microphone. One of them is sports, and he has always looked to connect with fans across the world by wearing the local soccer jersey at his gigs. Hailing from Long Beach, he is sure to know what is going on with the area’s sports teams and all the developments concerning online betting in California.

Snoop Dogg has had quite a career and life so far, and we thought we would look at where it all started, his accomplishments to date, and just how much he is worth these days.

Early Life

Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. was born in Long Beach, California, on October 20, 1971. His father, Vernell Varnado, left when Snoop was just three months old, and he took the name of his stepfather, Calvin Cordozar Broadus Sr. His mother, Beverly Tate, nicknamed him Snoopy as a boy due to his likeness to the cartoon dog.

As a young boy, Snoop would sing and play piano in church before he started rapping as a pre-teen. He kept honing his craft but was getting increasingly caught up in the gang culture of Los Angeles. Shortly after graduating from high school, he was arrested for drug possession, and during the next three years, he spent a lot of time inside prison.

At the same time, Snoop was recording mixtapes with two of his cousins (one of which was Nate Dogg) and his friend Warren G. One of these tapes ended up with Dr. Dre, who auditioned Snoop for his label Death Row Records in 1991. There, The D.O.C. helped him master rapping and set him up for a career at the top of his profession.

Career

Snoop first burst onto the scene with a cameo performance on the theme song for the 1992 movie Deep Cover. Hip-hop fans immediately warmed to his signature laid-back flow and his first solo album, Doggystyle, a year later. Even though Snoop was lumped in with the whole gangsta rap genre—and used many of its themes in his songs—his soft lyrical style made him much different from the rest of the output.

Dr. Dre had left Death Row when Snoop‘s second album, The Doggfather, was released, and its style was even further away from gang tales. It used a G-funk music style to appeal to the street and the pop charts. Snoop left Death Row himself in 1998 and signed with Master P‘s No Limit label. His more universal appeal only made him more successful.

Snoop continued to produce successful albums over the next 20-plus years, all the while becoming increasingly mainstream. This was evident even though he was still rapping about some gangsta subjects that had made him so controversial in the early 1990s. This adoption from the mainstream allowed Snoop to enter into other creative ventures.

He now has an extensive body of film work and has become a television celebrity in his own right. It is difficult to find anyone who doesn’t like Snoop Dogg these days – in any of his creative guises – even though he has changed little from his early days.

Personal Life

At the beginning of his professional career, Snoop was charged with first-degree murder, something he was eventually acquitted of in 1996. That brush with serious jail time is credited with Snoop moving away from the gangsta lifestyle.

Snoop married his high school sweetheart, Shante Broadus, in 1997 but filed for divorce in 2001. The couple renewed their vows seven years later and has three children together: Cordell Broadus, Corde Broadus, and Cori Broadus. Snoop also has a son, Julian Corrie Broadus, from another relationship.

Snoop has long been known for his interest in sports and his cannabis use. Drug laws have changed in California, and now Snoop has his own cannabis product companies among a range of other investments. Although he is a follower of his hometown Los Angeles Dodgers and Lakers, he is also a big Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He is also a certified football coach and previously coached one of his son’s teams before setting up his own youth football league in Los Angeles.

Snoop Dogg’s Net Worth

It is estimated that Snoop Dogg‘s net worth is around $160 million. After over 30 years of selling millions of records, his wealth has grown and grown. He commands huge fees for cameo appearances on other artists’ songs, videos, and film roles in some of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters.

He credits Master P with his business sense and success as an entrepreneur and has enjoyed several endorsements throughout his career. Probably the only appearance Snoop wasn’t paid for was his iconic performance as part of the 2022 Super Bowl halftime. Alongside Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar and others, Snoop played his hometown of Los Angeles and celebrated an incredible career and life that shows no sign of slowing down.
