Social media influencer VeryDarkMan, whose real name is Martins Vincent Otse, breathed a sigh of relief as he was finally released from police custody after nine long days. His detention had sparked outrage among his followers and fellow activists, who were deeply concerned about freedom of speech in Nigeria.

The activist’s return to freedom came late on a Sunday evening, bringing joy to many who had been advocating for his release. Despite the relief, questions still linger about the reasons behind his arrest, as the details surrounding the allegations remain shrouded in mystery.

Omoyele Sowore, a prominent activist, took to Twitter to share the good news, thanking everyone who had worked tirelessly to ensure VeryDarkMan‘s release. It was a glimmer of hope in the ongoing struggle for justice and freedom of expression.

This wasn’t the first time VeryDarkMan found himself in police custody this year. Earlier in January, he was detained following a petition from actress Tonto Dikeh regarding comments made during a controversy involving the late Nigerian singer Mohbad. The repeated brushes with the law underscore the challenges activists face in fighting for their beliefs.
