Keke Palmer and Gabrielle Union have voiced their support for Taraji P. Henson, who recently spoke out about the pervasive issue of pay inequality in Hollywood. Henson, known for her roles in The Color Purple and Empire, highlighted the considerable pay gap faced by Black women in the industry during an emotional interview with Gayle King for SiriusXM radio.

Union took to social media, echoing Henson‘s sentiments, stating, “Not a damn lie told. Not. A. Damn. Lie.” She emphasized actresses’ challenges in advocating for change and acknowledged its toll on their well-being and careers.

Addressing Henson‘s comments about the distribution of Hollywood paychecks, Palmer shed light on the complex financial dynamics within the entertainment industry. She emphasized the multifaceted nature of actors’ expenses, including team salaries and other costs. Palmer also underscored the necessity for individuals in the industry to work multiple jobs, often out of obligation rather than choice.

“The entertainment industry is just like any other industry. We run businesses to keep our brands afloat, us being the brand/business,” Palmer shared on Instagram. She concluded her message with a poignant quote from Biggie: “More money, more problems,” emphasizing the intricate financial landscape of the entertainment world.

Henson‘s SiriusXM interview delved into her challenges as a Black woman negotiating contracts in Hollywood. She expressed frustration over the recurrence of pay disparities, even after breaking glass ceilings. The actress highlighted the financial burden actors bear, with substantial deductions for team salaries and taxes.

While Keke Palmer stressed the importance of side hustles to counterbalance the industry’s financial demands, Henson diversified her income streams with ventures like her TPH haircare line. The collective voices of actresses like Henson, Palmer, and Union reflect a growing demand for equity and fairness in Hollywood, challenging the industry to address systemic issues and pave the way for change.
