Early Life

Steven Tyler, originally named Steven Victor Tallarico, was born in Yonkers, New York, on March 26, 1948.

His early years were influenced by music and struggles. His father, Victor A. Tallarico, a skilled musician and music teacher, introduced him to music from a young age.

Although he began playing drums, his singing abilities eventually became his focus. Steven Tyler founded the band “Chain Reaction” (initially known as “The Strangeurs”) while attending Roosevelt High School in Yonkers.

They had the opportunity to open for famous groups such as The Byrds and The Beach Boys.

Nevertheless, in 1967, he was kicked out of high school due to drug use.

Tyler’s music career took a significant turn when he relocated to Boston in the late 1960s. He formed a connection with Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton, who would later become members of Aerosmith, leading to the creation of the iconic rock band in 1970.

Education

Steven Tyler’s formal education was cut short when he was expelled from Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, New York, for using marijuana.

He later graduated from Quintano’s School for Young Professionals. Despite not completing traditional schooling, Steven Tyler carved his path to success as the legendary frontman of Aerosmith.

He has been awarded honorary degrees from Berklee College of Music and the University of Massachusetts Boston.

Career

Tyler was born in 1948 in Yonkers, New York. His father was a music teacher, and Tyler started playing drums when he was young.

He switched to singing later when he fell in love with rock and roll. In 1964, while still in high school, Tyler created his first band, Chain Reaction, and eventually left school to focus on music.

In 1970, Tyler, guitarist Joe Perry, and bassist Tom Hamilton founded Aerosmith. The band gained recognition for its powerful rock music and Tyler’s captivating stage presence.

Aerosmith’s debut album was released in 1973 with hit songs like “Dream On” and “Mama Kin.” The band continued to release successful albums in the 1970s but faced struggles with drug and alcohol addiction.

By 1979, Perry had left the band to pursue a solo career. Tyler and Perry reconciled in 1984, and Tyler completed drug rehabilitation in 1986, leading to the release of “Done with Mirrors,” which re-established Aerosmith as a major rock band.

Aerosmith’s album “Permanent Vacation” was released in 1987 and included popular singles like “Dude (Looks Like a Lady)” and a remake of “Walk This Way.” The album was a huge success and helped the band achieve widespread fame.

They went on to release successful albums in the 1990s, such as “Get a Grip” and “Nine Lives,” which featured hits like “Cryin‘” and “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.” The band has continued to tour and release music in the 2000s and 2010s.

Steven Tyler also served as a judge on “American Idol” for two seasons before returning to focus on his music career.

In 2011, Tyler launched his debut solo album “Widescreen Dreams,” which achieved commercial success by reaching number one on the Billboard 200 chart.

Tyler has worked with artists like Carrie Underwood, P! nk, and Justin Bieber, co-writing and co-producing the hit song “Hands,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2016.

Steven Tyler is widely recognized as a rock icon. He has had a prolific and influential singing career that has lasted for over five decades.
