Early Life & Education
TB Joshua was a prominent Nigerian charismatic pastor, televangelist, and philanthropist, born on June 12, 1963, in Arigidi Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria. His parents, Folarin Balogun (mother) and Kolawole Balogun (father) named him Temitope Balogun Joshua.
As the sole child of his parents, he received education at St. Stephen’s Anglican Primary School. Despite dropping out of senior school after just one year, TB Joshua, a well-educated individual, initially pursued a career in Yoruba-to-English translation. However, his path changed when he began working on a chicken farm.
Career
In 1987, TB Joshua established the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), rapidly evolving into a major religious institution attracting followers from diverse regions of Africa and beyond. His influence reached new heights with the introduction of Emmanuel TV, a channel broadcasting SCOAN services and “miracle crusades” to a global audience.
Joshua gained renown for his remarkable healing and miracle performances during services, drawing both dedicated believers and skeptical critics. Additionally, he founded Emmanuel TV Charity, an organization supporting education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation initiatives across Africa. Joshua also amassed a significant following on social media platforms like YouTube.
However, tragedy struck in 2014 when a guest cottage at SCOAN collapsed, claiming 116 lives. Investigations ensued, raising accusations of negligence against TB Joshua and questioning his practices. Former followers voiced concerns about alleged manipulation and exploitation within SCOAN, tarnishing Joshua’s reputation.
Further controversies arose in 2021 when YouTube suspended its channel, Emmanuel TV, citing violations of its hate speech policy. Joshua‘s targeted comments against LGBTQ+ individuals led to this action.
On January 10, 2024, Dare Adejumo, a public affairs analyst and Synagogue Church of All Nations member, expressed disagreement with a BBC documentary focusing on the late Temitope Babatunde Joshua, commonly known as TB Joshua.

Based on testimonies from five Britons spanning nearly two decades, the report asserts that TB Joshua committed acts of rape and compelled worshippers to undergo forced abortions within a concealed compound in Lagos. Additionally, the late televangelist is accused of orchestrating deceptive “miracle healings” that were disseminated to millions worldwide.
