The most recent trend in Nigerian popular culture is the phrase “Abi kin pe Rexxie“; this grammatically translates to “perhaps I should call Rexxie” in the English Language.

The phrase is used by Afrobeats lovers to contemplate whether or not help from Rexxie is needed in music making, especially hit songs. Rexxie has used it to boast of his abilities as a beat producer for some time now on the internet.

Rexxie‘s abilities are not in doubt. The music maker’s contribution to Chinko Ekun‘s Able Gold and Naira Marley and Zlatan Ibile‘s discography is proof. He is also Grammy certified through his contributions to Burna Boy‘s Twice as Tall album.

With the phrase “abi ki n pe Rexxie,” fans have grown more confident in their request to literally speak to Rexxie on a call. The producer also contemplated granting their wish with a plan to get a fan call line to make it feasible.

Of course, the origin of the slang is found in the song Abracadabra which accommodates collaborative inputs from Naira Marley and Skiibii in 2022. On the song, Naira Marley is heard singing the following lines:

“Abi kin pe Rexxie, Rexxie, Rexxie
World bestie (Bestie)
Blue jersey, I’m not Chelsea (Chelsea)
Gunners la wa, no testing (Testing)
Don’t call me, don’t text me (Text me, hello)
Dial ’em up, no person (Person)
Make person, no chassis
Marley Naira, no person.”
