Early Life and Education

Thompson grew up playing soccer and basketball and attended St. Marguerite d’Youville Secondary School in Brampton.

He later transferred to Saint Benedict’s Preparatory School in Newark, New Jersey, where he excelled in basketball and academics. ESPN ranked him as the fourth-best high school player in the US in 2010.

He then enrolled at the University of Texas, where he played for one season and earned several honours, including the Big 12 Freshman of the Year and the NABC Division I All-District 8 First Team.

Personal Life

Tristan Thompson has had a complicated personal life, especially regarding his romantic relationships. He has two children from two different women, both of whom he allegedly cheated on.

His first child, Prince, was born in December 2016 to his ex-girlfriend, Jordan Craig, a model and social media influencer.

Thompson and Craig had broken up before Prince was born, and Thompson had already started dating Khloé Kardashian, a famous member of the Kardashian–Jenner family and the star of the reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Thompson and Kardashian welcomed their daughter, True, in April 2018, just days after Thompson was caught on camera kissing another woman at a nightclub.

Despite the scandal, Thompson and Kardashian stayed together until February 2019, when Thompson was accused of cheating on Kardashian again, this time with Jordyn Woods, the best friend of Kardashian’s half-sister Kylie Jenner.

Thompson and Kardashian split up but reconciled in August 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, their relationship did not last long, as Thompson was sued by Maralee Nichols, a personal trainer, in October 2021 for allegedly fathering her son and trying to bribe her to keep quiet.

Thompson denied the allegations, but a paternity test confirmed that he was the biological father of Nichols‘ son, who was born in December 2021. Thompson and Kardashian broke up for good in January 2022 and have been co-parenting their daughter True ever since.

Career

Tristan Thompson has had a remarkable career as a professional basketball player in the NBA and internationally.

The Cleveland Cavaliers drafted him fourth overall in the 2011 NBA draft, making him the highest-drafted Canadian-born player in history at the time.

He made his NBA debut on December 26, 2011, against the Toronto Raptors, his hometown team. He quickly established himself as a reliable rebounder and defender and helped the Cavaliers reach the NBA Finals four times in a row, from 2015 to 2018.

He won his first and only NBA championship in 2016 when the Cavaliers defeated the Golden State Warriors in a historic comeback from a 3-1 deficit. Thompson became a free agent in 2020 and signed a two-year, $19 million contract with the Boston Celtics.

However, he was traded to the Sacramento Kings in July 2021 and then to the Atlanta Hawks in August 2021. The Hawks eventually waived him, and he returned to the Cavaliers in September 2021, signing a one-year, $2.6 million deal. He has been playing for the Cavaliers ever since, averaging 7.8 points and 8.4 rebounds per game as of February 2024.

Thompson has also represented Canada in international competitions, such as the FIBA Americas Championship and the FIBA World Cup. He won a bronze medal with Canada at the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship and qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

However, he did not participate in the Olympics due to contract negotiations with the Cavaliers. He also missed the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China for personal reasons.

He has expressed his desire to play for Canada at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France if he is healthy and available.
