The embassy in the UAE denied them a visa and accused him of being a terrorist. She was shocked and confused by the allegations and defended her husband’s innocence.

Alla Bout’s efforts paid off in December 2022 when her husband was released from prison and returned to Russia as part of a prisoner exchange involving basketball star Brittney Griner.
