Helen Skelton is a famous English TV presenter, and actress hosting shows like Blue Peter and Countryfile.

She is also known for her adventurous feats, such as kayaking the Amazon River and walking a tightrope between the towers of Battersea Power Station.

But who are the people behind her success and inspiration? Let us explore the lives of her parents, Richard and Janet Skelton, who raised her on a dairy farm in Cumbria and supported her dreams.

Richard Skelton

Richard Skelton was born in the 1950s and grew up in a farming family in Cumbria. He inherited the farm from his father and continued the tradition of working with animals and crops.

He was passionate about nature and conservation and taught his children to respect and appreciate the environment.

He was also a sports enthusiast and encouraged his son Gavin to pursue a football career. He was a loving and devoted father who always had time for his family and friends.

Janet Skelton

Janet Skelton was born in the 1960s and met Richard when they were both young. They fell in love, got married in the 1980s, and settled on the farm in Kirkby Thore.

Janet was a caring and supportive mother who helped Richard with the farm work and looked after their children.

She was also a talented dancer and singer, sharing her passion for performing arts with her daughter Helen. She was cheerful and optimistic, always seeing the bright side of things.

Their Love life

Richard and Janet had a happy and harmonious marriage based on mutual respect and affection. They were each other’s best friends and partners and faced the challenges and joys of life together.

They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 2010 and renewed their vows in a romantic ceremony.

They enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren and visiting different places. They were proud of their daughter’s achievements and fame but never let it change their simple and humble lifestyle.

Their Children

Richard and Janet had two children, Gavin and Helen, born in the 1980s. Gavin was the older one, and followed his father’s footsteps in becoming a footballer.

He played for various clubs, such as Carlisle United and Gretna, and also became a player-manager. He retired from football in 2019 and now works as a coach.

Helen was the younger one and inherited her mother’s flair for performing. She studied journalism at the Cumbria Institute of the Arts and started her career as a radio presenter. She then moved to television and became a popular host of shows like Blue Peter and Countryfile.

She also took part in several adventurous challenges, such as kayaking the Amazon River and walking a tightrope between the towers of Battersea Power Station.

She married rugby player Richie Myler in 2013 and had two sons, Ernie and Louis. However, they separated in 2022, and Helen returned to the farm with her children.

Career

Richard and Janet did not have a conventional career, as they mainly ran the farm. They worked hard to maintain the quality and productivity of their land and animals and to cope with the changing demands and regulations of the farming industry.

They also diversified their income by selling their produce at local markets and fairs and hosting visitors and tourists on their farms. They were respected and admired by their neighbours, customers, and the wider farming community.

Legacy

Richard and Janet left a lasting legacy on their family and society by being exemplary parents and citizens.

They raised their children with love and discipline and instilled in them the values of honesty, integrity, and perseverance. They supported their children’s dreams and ambitions and celebrated their successes and achievements.

They also contributed to the preservation and enhancement of their region’s natural and cultural heritage by being responsible and sustainable farmers and by promoting the rural lifestyle and traditions. They inspired many people with their kindness, generosity, and cheerful attitude.

Their Net worth

Richard and Janet’s combined net worth is estimated to be around $2.5 million.

They lived modest and frugal lives, not caring much about money or material possessions; they were content with what they had.
